The Experience

foto by Jason Weaver, 2017

She wanted nothing more,
for there were no things
worth wanting anymore.
And as for wanting itself,
even that had become
a tiresome chore to her
as it grew and swelled, so
she let that go as well,
for it was taking up
too much of her time,
using up precious space
in her mind –space
that she needed
to think
and to be.

“You see,” she will say–
but only if you ask, since
she has no desire to sway or
convince, in fact,
no desire at all does she have
but simply to exist,
to live in the moment
to which she’s been offered–
“I am the experience.”
And then she will end
with nothing more proffered
for there is nothing more!
as even every day words
which she once
so adored become
inextricably
inexplicably
meaningless.

Ah, Vesperal Beauty

vesperal

‘Tis twilight
here while I write
in the wooded garden glen.
It is both warm and damp,
the Summer Solstice so close
that our clammy hands almost
–touch.

Light dims and dims more.
Rusty-breasted sabiás call
for day’s stop.
“Time best to quit,”
they chime in song,
as cambacicas tweeter and twit
and hop along leafy limbs.

Crickets chirp, frogs, too.
The dusky hue of the thicket green
darkles to black,
while the vespertine Nicotiana,
whose purple velveteen petals unfold
unmatched in their beauty untold
but by only their fragrance,
begs the nocturnal hawkthorn moth
to feed.

As do the mosquitoes of a fever breed
that buzz all aloud
at my eyes and my ear tips
and swell about my face in a cloud
nipping at me, sipping of me
with the stinging ferocity
of red-bellied piranhas
upon flesh in a river of bloodlet
feasts.

I dash hurriedly
to the safety of the house
and leave the twilight beauty
to the beasts.

Author’s edit note: I corrected the name of the flower in the 3rd stanza which I had copied over wrong in early revisions. The Nicotiana is a night flowering ornamental tobacco plant that grows in my garden and smells of a jasmine scent, seen in the background of the photo. ~ Jason

Also: I am attempting something new– I’ve found an OpenLink Poetry blog dversepoets here on WordPress– this will be my first submission into any type of poetry discussion group! Wish me luck! ~ Jason

In Spring Anticipant

The inevitable
resumes
within the veritable in-swept winds
whence change looms
in Spring
anticipant
like radiant blooms
from vernal buds burst incipient
One generative thrust
of cyclic revolution
the recurrent evolution surges
and from which emerges
a transformative shift
of perceptive perspective
Growth
out of dormancy
and Age
out of infancy

Consumed

Consumed
In a rabid feast
engorged on the vapid
and least
the voracious greed of vacuous
need and want would
come soon to
consume
me

And there
wasted in perforate debase
I tasted the seeds of giving
and the sustaining greens
of living
with less

The forsaking
a redress of excess
I relinquished the profiting empty
and ate of the proffering
plenty
replete
